There was nothing ordinary about the ceremony and reception that united Jessica Martinez and DeShawn Shead, Seattle Seahawks cornerback. Their love began when they met at the Blue Martini, leading to a proposal on the 50-yard line following the team’s Super Bowl win.
Merry Beth Turpin of Aisle of View was the lead wedding planner for the couple. Merry Beth has been working with BBJ Linen for years, stating “I love all of your stuff and use it for almost every single wedding.” Her unique style and technique creates a personalized experience for all her brides and grooms.
The Full Picture
One of Merry Beth’s favorite meetings with her couples is the mockup meeting. For DeShawn and Jessica, that meant spending a day at their modern venue, the Four Seasons Hotel and Residence in Seattle. Merry Beth brought with her a wardrobe rack of 20-30 linen, all of her swatches, and every other minor detail the couple would have to decide on to create their desired elegant design. Before arrival, Merry Beth set up 5 tables to create a wow factor as the couple came in. While sometimes overwhelming, Merry Beth says, “it’s easier to make a decision with a full perspective of the different options.”
After linen, flatware, glassware, chargers, napkins, highboy tables and many more details were determined, Merry Beth was ready to create the couple’s dream reception that come the day of, would bring the groom’s mother to tears.
Elegantly Monochromatic
The ceremony and reception were the very definition of romantic, held high above the city with a view of Puget Sound in downtown Seattle. Some wedding photos were shot at Pike Place Market, while others were staged on the balcony with a ferris wheel as backdrop.
Tradition Taken to Extreme
The reception itself was characterized by a modern and elegant scheme, relying on an extravagant floral motif in shades of champagne, ivory and gold. The partly sunny Seattle day was the perfect backdrop for the elegant festivities.
White Orchids, Roses and Petals
Merry Beth had selected BBJ Linen’s Champagne Corsage linen, which looks as if it’s strewn with flower petals, for the table linen and then worked with Rented Elegance to mix white orchids and roses in the centerpieces. This was designed to highlight the dynamic interplay of a monotone color scheme.
All Glitter and Shine
While the predominant tone is golden, thanks to the room’s background, draperies and carpet, added glitter and shine emanates from every surface. Simple gold Chiavari chairs complement golden flatware; dangling crystals magnify the effect of crystal chandeliers and accent the floral displays; votive lights, crystal and sparkling surfaces spread the light and lighten the mood.
Personal Expressions
The couple exchanged vows — which they wrote themselves — standing at the end of a white runner in front of a simple structure draped with sheers and festooned with cascades of flowers. Guests were seated on either side of the floral decorated aisle, oriented toward views of sea and sky. Appropriate to the vibe of the wedding, DeShawn and Jessica danced down the aisle after saying “I do” to Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)” which had everyone dancing and laughing ready for cocktail hour.
A Little Bling
The bride’s request for just the right amount of bling gave Merry Beth inspiration for the cocktail hour. Beautifully draped highboy tables wore glittery floor length linen from BBJ,
Crystals and Roses
A four-tier white wedding cake needs no adornment other than simple gold bands and a “crown” of white roses. It stands ready for the traditional cake ceremony on a distinctive base of reflective crystal and mirror.

Fine and Fancy Details
Seats of honor for the bride and groom are marked with subtle sheer lace-adorned overlays that accentuate the elegant look. They complement the table linen and are ever-so-perfect at for this unique reception.
With a guest list filled with Seattle Seahawks players, guests such as Russell Wilson, Ciara, and Richard Sherman showed up to the day ready to dance and celebrate the beautiful couple. Name cards were complimented with a jewel per the bride’s request to add the perfect amount of sparkle and shine to each individual setting.
Light and Filled with Delight
With little color, table settings are filled with detail. Even the clear chargers bring gold accents to the scene. They are light as air, but heavy on impact, just as the champagne-hued napkins add a bit of weight and solidity to the overall lacy, elegant theme.
Aisle of View takes pride in all of the weddings they coordinate, whether it be a celebrity or local high school sweethearts. For DeShawn and Jessica, it meant the perfect wedding day they had always dreamed of!
